Mercian Travel Bowling in Spain

Hello everyone, Updating you on our recent trip to Torremolinos during January and February.

Don Pablo 2011 Beautiful sunshine for the first two weeks and then we had to contend with two weeks of slightly cold, a little rain and wind! not too bad with the final week back to the usual sunshine of the Costa Del Sol.

Tan built up nicely and lots of good bowling from clients who appreciated being back on the green in the fresh air rather than short mat in the ball room.

Had a trip to Mabella starting at the bus station in Torremolinos at a cost of 4 euros which took us to Malaga bus station then we had to catch a local bus down into Mabella. Beautiful esplanade along front stretching for miles to Puerto Banuos or Fuengirola. Lunch at a seaside cafe then a walk into the old town sight seeing. Lovely old streets, squares and gorgeous jewellery shops.

Don Pablo 2011Managed to find a local bus to take us back to Fuengirola where we had to get off and catch another bus back to Torremolinos. Decided to look around and have a drink before getting on the bus. Quite an excursion but very enjoyable and not expensive.

Arranged to have a trip to Gibraltar - bad move - rained all day, didn't get to see the apes, caves or dolphins, but found comfort in the bar and cafe's. Duty free has gone up but deals still can be found if you look for them. Sun was out again for us the next day which made up for it and bowlers keen to get outside once again. Some celebrating with a glass or two.

Don Pablo 2011Tourists seem to be a bit thin on the ground but was still able to enjoy the lunch at the friendly cafes with the all the long stay holiday makers. The local Spanish get the use of their amenities and cafes and its good to see them enjoying the sunshine at the weekends and we got to see the Spanish children using their new bicycles, roller skates, and skateboards along the Esplanade.

Don Pablo 2011Client numbers improved towards the middle of January and we were pleased to welcome new bridge and bowls players, some of whom had been scheduled to fly to Tunisia but with the trouble that erupted there, had been given the opportunity of transferring to Spain.

Don Pablo 2011It was great meeting up with new and old friends and catching up on all the gossip. The hotel Sol Don Pedro puts on some great entertainment and the cocktail hour is very agreeable. Tried to learn the basis of bridge and discovered I have a lot to learn but will try to persevere with the lessons now I am back home.
