Two weeks before Christmas we were heading off to Torremolinos to meet up with friends made at the start of the year and looking forward to meeting new clients of Mercian at the Sol Don Pablo for some great bowling and to celebrate Christmas and the start of 2010.
Friendly bowling competitions are held on a daily basis with personal scores being tallied up at the end of play and accumalated over a two week period when presentation of awards are distributed.
Christmas dinner gave the ladies and gentlemen an opportunity of show off their finery and the seven course meal was a test for us all which unfortunately had to be helped down with copious amount of liquid! and dancing between courses.
New Years Eve proved just as tiring and filling but after the rigours of Christmas we had learnt to cope and enjoy ourselves.
A variety of competitions are played and one of the highlights being a match between Mercian and hotel guests with many of the Mercian Bridge players giving support to the teams with much urging on and hand clapping, and according to a long standing Hotel guest to his knowledge this match was the first win ever for Mercian and he is looking forward to a re-match later in the year!.
Another great match is the Ladies v Men at the end of the two week period. With much puffing out of chests and shouts of " Who's taken my woods?" and "You're not on my team, are you!" the match got under way. Unfortunately for the ladies, the men won this match, but there is always another time! Once again the match ended with a pleasant little drinks party prior to going off to celebrate in style for some of us who still had the energy for a Chinese lunch, with as you can see MORE DRINKS!!. How the sun can shine in January and make us all happy!, and the majority of us were smiling more when we found out at the end of the meal that we were being treated to it by the gentleman sitting at the head of the table!! Good on you mate.
