BOGNOR REGIS BOWLS TOURISTS 2009
Tour to the Isle of Wight bowling Clubs September 18th 2009
View from a seasoned Tourist.
The tour this year was different in that we were located at Warners Holiday Resort, Bembridge, and shared the hotel facilities with many other guests. Although this meant that we could not share our last evening with invited guests from the various Clubs as has been the norm, we were more than compensated by the array of sporting facilities at our disposal.
Thus the bowling tour became a multi sport friendly competition including indoor bowls, pitch and putt, snooker etc. Of course we were there to play bowls and were entertained by six very different clubs all of whom tested us fully. We had a very successful week winning 5 of the 6 matches, and whilst this was not the paramount reason for touring it was a refreshing change.
With individual players scores being carefully monitored each day, the Frank Buck trophy this year went to a new tourist Terry Rexstrew with a shot difference of 44. (Something to be said for keep getting drawn onto Rink 1 or 6 ?) Very worthy of mention was the identical score of another "new boy" Jeremy Brown, and the winner only decided after a count back of number of ends won over the week.
In fact there were many new faces this year al of whom "fitted in" with general good natured banter of the group and I am sure all had an enjoyable holiday.
To anyone from the Island whom may chance to read this we say a big thank you for your hospitality. Be sure that we will tour there again some time in the future.
Next year on to Cliftonville if arrangements can be made. We look forward to Sept.2010 to renewing old friendships and welcoming new ones.
